CHECKGASSUPPLY
Thegaspipetoyourboiler m ustbethecorrect s izeforthe
length oftherunandforthetotalBTUperhourinputofall
gasutilization e quipment c onnected toit.SeeFig.10for
theproper size.Besureyourgaslinecomplies withlocal
codesandgascompany requirements.
The boiler and its individualshutoffvalve must be
disconnected f i*om the gassupplypipingsystemduring
anypressure testingof thatsystemattestpressures in
excessof 1/2psig(3.5kPa).
The boilermustbe isolated fromthe gassupplypiping
system byclosing itsindividual manual s hutoffvalve d uring
anypressure testingofthegas supplypipingsystemat
testpressures equalto or lessthan 1/2psig(3.5kPa).
CONNECTING THEGASPIPING
Referto Fig, 11for the generallayoutat the boiler.It
showsthebasicfittings youwillneed.Thegaslineenters
the boilerfromthe rightside.
Thefollowing rulesapply:
1.Useonlythosepipingmaterials andjoiningmethods
listed asacceptable b ytheauthority h aving jurisdiction,
orintheabsence ofsuchrequirements, bytheNational
Fuel Gas Code,ANSI
ZX223.1-1atest revision. In
Canada, follow the CSA B149.1 and .2 Installation
Codes for Gas Burning Appliances and Equipment.
2. All pipe compound must be resistant to liquefied
petroleum gas.
3. Install ground joint union in gas supply line between
shut-off valve and boiler controls.
4. Install a sediment trap upstream of gas controls.
5. Use two pipe wrenches when making the connection
to the gas valve to keep it from turning.
6. Install manual shut-off valve in vertical pipe about 5
feet above floor.
7.-lighten all joints securely.
8. Propane gas connections should only be made by a
licensed propane installer.
9. Two-stage regulation should be used by the propane
installer.
10. Propane gas piping should be checked out by the
propane installer.
CHECKING
THE GAS PIPING
Upon completion of piping, check right away for gas
leaks. Open the manual shut-off valve. Test for leaks
by applying soap suds (or a liquid detergent) to each
joint. Bubbles forming indicate a leak. CORRECT
EVEN THE SMALLEST
LEAKAT ONCE.
