Cannot read/write to a floppy disk

How to format a floppy disk is unclear
Check the connection.
Confirm that the device driver for the serial port works. Refer to the operating
instructions of the device. Confirm that two mouse devices are not connected,
one through the external keyboard/mouse port of the port replicator and the
other through the serial port.
Try setting [Touch Pad] and [Touchscreen](only for models with touchscreen) to
[Disable] in the Setup Utility.
Confirm that [Serial Port A] (or [Serial Port B]) has not been set to [Disable].
Depending on the device, the operable I/O and IRQ may be limited. Try
different I/O and IRQ settings in the Setup Utility.
When using the Microsoft Serial BallPoint, if [Microsoft Serial Ballpoint] is
displayed in [Mice and other pointing devices]
BallPoint] and set [Device usage] to [Use this device].

Has the floppy disk been correctly inserted?
Has the floppy disk been correctly formatted?
Has the Setup Utility been used to set [Floppy Operation] to [Enable]? (

Your floppy disk content may be corrupted.
Is the floppy disk write-protected?
Format the floppy disk using the following procedure.
Windows XP
Select [Format] in [Start] - [My Computer] - [3 1/2 Floppy (A:)] - [File]. After
confirming the disk volume and format type, start formatting.
Windows 2000
Select [Format] in [My Computer] - [3 1/2 Floppy (A:)] - [File]. After confirming
the disk volume and format type, start formatting.
