(2) Check the life in consumables (particularly the drum, developer material and transfer belt unit), and replace
if necessary.
* When any consumable parts are replaced, follow procedures (a) and (b) below.
(a) Enter adjustment mode [05], select code [879], and press the [START] button.
• Image quality control will take place and the image quality control value will be initialized.
(b) Perform automatic calibration (γ adjustment) and calibration.
* For the adjustment method, refer to procedure (2) in Section 1.1 "To Obtain High-density Image in General".
* When a drum is replaced, reset the values of the drum life counter and the drum drive counter for the
replaced color to zeros.

* When any consumable parts are replaced, also check the slit glass of the laser optical unit, and thoroughly
clean if found fouled.
After changing the set value, print and check the image quality.
If further image quality adjustments are still necessary, use the next procedure.
(3) Make adjustments so as to obtain the optimum transfer condition for the paper to be used.
* Make adjustments by referring to Section 1.2 "To Have Optimum Image Quality for the Paper Used".

(4) For printing, adjust the color reproduction process to eliminate color unevenness and moiré in the gray area.
* Make adjustments by referring to Section 3.4 "To Print A Gray Area in Black Toner Only".

• You can also follow procedure (1) "execution of color registration control" from the Control Panel in the
following manner.
(a) Select the "PROGRAM" menu from the Control Panel and select "REGISTRATION".
(b) Select "YES" to execute color registration control.
* The [REGISTRATION] button is additionally displayed in the menu when the setting of 08-957 is set to "1".
• When replacing any consumable parts, refer to the relevant information in the SERVICE MANUAL and
SERVICE HANDBOOK.
