3. Printer-specific Adjustments

3.14 To Make A Gray Area Look Smooth

Before the adjustment
The reproduced gray areas look rough.
Explanation
When the black areas are printed only with the K toner, for example, by performing grayscale printing or by
changing the profile settings using the procedures described in "3.4 To Print A Gray Area in Black Toner Only",
the reproduced gray areas may look rough. To make the reproduced gray areas look smooth and better, choose a
lower halftone screen frequency for "Smooth" in the HalfTone setting applicable to image data (digital photo or
scanning data) or graphics data (line art). This adjustment clearly prints the screen dots with the K toner, thus
improves reproducibility of the gray areas (look less rough).
Procedure
* Perform the adjustment in accordance with the procedure below.
* Procedures (1) to (4) are used by the service technician only.
* Procedures (5) and (6) are used by the service technician, and by the user.
(1) Enter setting mode [08]. Change the value for code [510] to "1" to separately operate the automatic gamma
adjustment of printer from that of copier.
