Earthing and protecting the communication server

The protective earth and equipotential bonding are important integral parts of the
safety concept: Standard EN 60950 relevant to safety matters stipulates protective
earthing.
Warning
High leakage currents can occur as a result of connecting to the commu-
nication network.
Establish an earth connection before connecting to the communications
network.
Disconnect the communication server from the communications net-
work before carrying out maintenance work.
Warning
Transient overvoltage can occur on the mains and on the communica-
tions network.
Protect each line installation leading from the building by using one
surge voltage protector per core at the isolating point (main) distribution
frame or entry point into the building.
Operation on an IT current distribution system:
The communication server can be operated on an IT power distribution system as
per EN/IEC 60950 with voltages of up to 230 VAC.
