Checking the paper-feed motor and drive train

1.
Determine if the paper-feed motor runs by pressing the TEST PRINT
button. If it does not rotate, go to the Step 2. If it does rotate, go to
Step 5.
2.
Inspect the paper-feed belt for broken teeth. Replace the belt if you
find any. Ensure the paper-feed belt is properly tensioned as
explained in the Chapter 8 topic "Tensioning the paper-feed drive
belt" on page 8-37. You can also test the motor operation using the
motor checks described in the Chapter 9 topic "Motors check" on
page 9-26.
3.
Ensure that the top and rear cover interlock switches are operating
correctly. Refer to the earlier topic "+40 and HV safety interlocks" on
page 6-7.
4.
Measure if +40 VDC is being supplied to the motor. If it is, go to Step
3 to check the +40 VDC interlock. If it is not, inspect the paper-feed
motor's wiring harness. If the harness is good, then troubleshoot the
power supply. Refer back to the topic "Verifying power supply
operation" on page 6-4.
5.
With the printer turned off, disconnect the motor's wiring harness.
Measure the resistance of the motor's windings. The expected
resistances are listed in Table 6-1, "Motor and solenoid resistances," on
page 6-9. If the windings are opened, shorted or far out of tolerance,
replace the motor.
6.
If the motor windings resistance are within specification, then inspect
the wiring harness for nicks, crimps, opens or other problems. If the
harness checks out, then replace the engine control board.
7.
With power off, check the print engine board's motor drivers for open
or shorted outputs.

The media skews passing through the paper path

1.
Make sure that the media is properly installed in the tray.
2.
Are the tray's side paper guides snugly adjusted against the stack of
media? The guides should be neither too loose nor too tight.
3.
Is the paper tray damaged or obstructed?
4.
Are the springs in the paper feeder that lift the paper tray damaged?
Remove the tray from the printer and then push down on the tray
guides to determine if they operate correctly.
