Jam — Manual-feed input
1.
Set and use the manual-feed paper guides so that the paper travels
squarely into the printer.
2.
Use two hands to hold a sheet of paper. Gently push the paper into
the manual-feed slot so the paper buckles slightly. This helps align the
paper squarely to the paper path. Wait at least 5 seconds after the
trailing edge disappears before inserting a second manual-feed sheet.
3.
The paper thickness should measure between 0.003 in. (drafting
vellum) and 0.01 in (125 lb. Book).
4.
Hand-fed paper should be Bond, Book, Text, Offset, Index, Tag,
Bristol, Drafting, or Vellum or their equivalent. Other media types
may exceed the printer's "envelope of media handling" and may jam.
5.
Transparency film must have opaque edges so the paper sensors are
actuated. Don't use paper-backed transparency; the double layer
media may jam on the stripper fingers during drum unloading. Use
only Tektronix Phaser 300 Transparency Film.
6.
The manual-feed sensor may operate erratically unless the top cabinet
is installed.
Note
Figures 1-4 and 1-5 illustrates the location of all the printer sensors.
Jam — Internal
1.
An internal jam is most likely located near the fuser, between the
backup system and the drum. This failure is usually caused by a
double pick. Ensure that paper is properly installed in the paper tray
to prevent a double pick. When a jam occurs, press any front panel
button to display an error code that gives specific information on the
jam. Refer to the later topic "Error Messages" on page 6-27 for details
on error codes.
2.
Another possible cause is an obstruction at the output slot to the
output tray or an obstruction at the fuser.
3.
Clean the paper clamp. Also check for foreign objects in the paper
path.
4.
Inspect the drum stripper which peels the media off the drum into the
fuser. It's located behind the backup system. Ensure that the stripper
fingers are not damaged and cannot snag the media. If they are
damaged the fuser may need to be replaced.
5.
This failure can also be caused by faulty sensors or roller failure. The
Chapter 9 topic "Sensors check" on page 9-25 discusses how to test
sensors.
