+40 and HV safety interlocks

The printer features a mechanical switch safety interlock. The interlock
functions off of the rear access cover. When the switch senses the rear cover
opened, it signals the power supply to turn off the +40 VDC supplied to the
motors, heaters and the high voltage supplied to the printhead. Generally, when
the interlock switch is opened, a message is displayed on the front panel to alert
the customer.
1.
Turn off the printer.
2.
Use a VOM, set to measure resistance, and test the rear access cover
interlock switch when it is opened and closed.
3.
Inspect the wiring harnesses for pinched wires, nicks and opened
connections.
If the switch does not function correctly, replace it.
The printer also features a top access cover open sensor. To determine if it works
correctly:
1.
Open the top access cover and check the LCD display for the message
Stopped - Close top cover . Closing the top cover should clear
the message. If the top cover is not properly seated, this message may
intermittently be displayed.
2.
With a VOM set to measure 20 VDC, measure from J102 Pin 2 at the
ink load board to ground. When the sensor is interrupted, it should
read +5 volts. Uninterrupted, it reads 0 volts.
If the switches work correctly and the DC voltages are correct, then the problem
may be an opened or otherwise faulty motor. Proceed to the topic "Testing
motor resistances" on page 6-9.
