Requirements for Auto Discovery

If the access points still have their factory default settings, the auto discovery process should
work fine. If you changed the access point configuration, make sure that the access point
configuration meets the following guidelines:
All standalone access points have SNMP and SSH enabled.
Each access point must have an IP address. All access points that are the same model
ship with the same default IP address. With the exception of access points in factory
default state that are in the same layer network, if more than one access point has the
same IP address, then only one of them is discovered at a time. You have to add the
access point to the managed list, change its IP address, and then run discovery again to
discover the next access point with that IP.
An access point must run at least its initial firmware release or a newer version.
In addition, for the auto discovery process to work across layer 3 networks, enable either one
of the following options:
Multicast routing for IP address 254.0.100.250 between the wireless controller and the
access points.
DHCP option 43 (vendor specific information) on the DHCP server. Specify the wireless
controller's IP address to allow the access points to receive the wireless controller's IP
address and the DHCP server to assign IP addresses to the access points.
Specifying a DHCP server on the wireless controller automatically enables DHCP
option 43 with its own IP address.

Managing the Access Point List

Adding Access Points to the Managed List After Discovery

After the wireless controller auto discovers the APs as explained in
on page 42, add them so that the wireless controller can manage them.
On the last Discovery Wizard screen (Step 3 of X: Select Access Points to manage). You
1.
can click an individual access point's check box to select it, or you can select the check box
on the upper left to select all access points.
Click Add. The access points are added to the Managed AP List.
2.
If you want to wait until later to add the discovered access points, you can select
Access Point > Last Discovered to view the most recently discovered access
points. From this screen, you can add the access points to the Managed AP List.
After you have added the access points to the Managed AP List, they are removed
from the discovery results and the Last Discovered screen.
Select Access Point > Managed AP List to display the following screen:
