1.2 CPE BladeSystem with c7000 Enclosure

CPE BladeSystem configurations use integrated c7000 enclosures that can hold up to 16 half-height
servers in each enclosure. The c7000 enclosures are configured in a 42U or 22U HP 10000 Series
rack, as shown in the following table:

1.3 CPE with Rack-Mountable Servers

CPE rack-mountable server configurations are one-rack implementations of the HP Cluster
Platform 3000 and 4000 configured with the most commonly chosen configuration options. These
implementations offer the following advantages:
The simplified product menu eases configuring and ordering solutions that use Gigabit
Ethernet or InfiniBand as the cluster interconnect.
You can deploy small-scale clusters faster and they require less labor (and lower integration
charges) than larger multirack implementations.
The comprehensive one-rack configurations offer high-performance computing (HPC) by
integrating servers, networks, and rack infrastructures with a choice of HPC software and
services.
The HP 10000 Series 22U rack supports up to 16 rack-mount compute nodes, and the HP
10000 Series 42U rack supports up to 32 rack-mount compute nodes.
HP CPE with rack-mountable server configurations feature 1U and 2U ProLiant servers, a
Gigabit Ethernet cluster network, a dedicated console network, and an optional
high-performance cluster interconnect based on InfiniBand.
CPE implementations are assembled to accepted worldwide design specifications, developed
and tested by HP. The systems are configured and tested by or at HP integration centers
prior to shipment and assembly at customer sites.
Full-bandwidth InfiniBand fabric is available for up to a maximum of 24 nodes;
half-bandwidth is supported for up to 32 nodes. CPE with rack-mountable servers uses the
InfiniBand adapter, offering the maximum performance for the system servers in your
configuration. The PCI Express adapters are used with nodes that offer PCI Express support.
If PCI Express support is not available, PCI-X adapters will be used.
Chapter 4
provides configuration examples and installation information for CPE with
rack-mountable servers in 42U and 22U rack configurations.

1.4 CPE Architecture Overview

CPE configurations follow the same design and quality standards established for HP Cluster
Platform solutions. CPE configurations are configured with the most commonly chosen
configuration options. This section provides an overview of the components found in the common
architecture:
