caution not to degrade the current coverage. The procedure described below can be used to safely
convert a non-ATPC deployment:
1 With ATPC disabled, print the Active Wireless APs display. Ensure you can read the current Tx
power for each Wireless AP as well as the AP serial numbers or names.
2 On the WAP Multi-edit screen, select all the Wireless APs.
3 From the Auto Tx Power Ctrl drop-down list, click Enabled.
4 In the Max Tx Power drop-down list, click the maximum allowed, which is 18dBm for the default
internal and external antennas. (For more information, see the Summit WM User Guide for setting
Max Tx Power for other antennas.).
5 In the Min Tx Power drop-down list, click the minimum allowed, 8 dBm for 11b/g and 0dBm for
11a.
6 In the Tx Power Adjust drop-down list, click 0 dB.
7 Click Save.
8 Wait a few minutes until the system stabilizes and then verify if the selected Tx power is adequate
by comparing the Tx power in the Active Altitude APs display with the Tx power in the printed
display.
Perform any adjustments as required:
If the Tx power for a Wireless AP must be raised, increase the Tx Power Adjust setting.
If the Tx power for a Wireless AP must be reduced, decrease the Tx Power Adjust setting.
Because guaranteeing coverage is more important than minimizing interference, it is recommended
at this stage to adjust the Min Tx Power setting for each Wireless AP to be equal to the Current Tx
Power setting. This guarantees that the Tx power will not reduce in case of RF environment changes.
To do so, for each Wireless AP and each radio, do the following:
a Open the corresponding Wireless AP and radio configuration page.
b Set the Min Tx Power to be equal to the Current Tx Power settings.
c Click Save.
3 – Adjusting ATPC in an existing deployment
For an existing deployment, the need may arise to review the ATPC settings if the RF environment
suffers significant changes. In such a case, it is recommended to redo the site survey in the area where
changes occurred, and then perform any adjustments if necessary:
If the Tx power for a Wireless AP must be raised, do the following:
Increase the Tx Power Adjust setting.
NOTE
If the Tx power reaches its maximum, further increasing the Tx Power Adjust setting will have no effect. This may
be a sign that the Tx power must be increased on other Wireless APs or that a new Wireless AP has to be added
to the network.
Adjust the Min Tx Power setting to match the new Current Tx Power setting.
If the Tx power for a Wireless AP must be reduced, do the following:
Set the Min Tx Power setting to the minimum allowed.
Decrease the Tx Power Adjust setting.
