If the Tx power for a Wireless AP must be reduced, decrease the Auto Tx Power Ctrl Adjust
setting.
NOTE
If the Tx power reaches its minimum, further decreasing the
effect. This may be a sign that the Tx power must be decreased on other Wireless APs or that this Wireless AP
may be redundant.
NOTE
Min Tx Power and Max Tx Power settings only limit the Tx power range available to the ATPC and should not be
used in this step. As the name suggests, the Tx Power Adjust setting adjusts the ATPC algorithm without
restricting its range and allows the ATPC to react if the RF environment changes. Below are two examples to
clarify the difference.
Example 1
AP1 and AP2 are placed on opposite walls of the same conference room. When ATPC is enabled, the room is
empty so the attenuation between the two Wireless APs is minimal. Both Wireless APs stabilize their Tx power at
3dBm using the default settings, but the site survey shows that both Wireless APs should be operating at 8dBm.
If the user set the Tx Power Adjust setting to +5dB, the ATPC will change the Current Tx Power setting on both
Wireless APs from 3dBm to 8dBm. If the user leaves the Tx Power Adjust setting at 0dB and sets the Min Tx
Power at 8dBm, the output of the ATPC algorithm will still be 3dBm, but because its output range is limited to
the minimum 8dBm, the actual Tx Power on both Wireless APs will be 8dBm. The difference between the two
scenarios is obvious when the room fills with people and the attenuation between the two Wireless APs increases
by 7dB. In the first case, the ATPC algorithm will increase the Current Tx Power on both Wireless APs by an
extra 7dB to 15dBm, thus fully compensating the attenuation introduced by the people. In the second case, the
ATPC output will still increase by 7dB, but from 3dBm instead of 8dBm. Hence, both Wireless APs will operate
with only 10dBm instead of 15dBm.
