Single Needle Dialysis (Optional)

2008K Single Needle Set-Up
Special items needed:
 Single needle arterial bloodline
 Single needle blood pump
Single Needle Operational Instructions
Notes: check that arterial and single needle pumps are set for the correct pump segment
diameter. Single needle lines usually have an 8 mm ID pump segment
Perform all tasks necessary in setting up the 2008K machine for dialysis, (i.e., proper
conductivity, pH of dialysate for bicarbonate, absence of disinfectant). As usual, use aseptic
technique for all blood side connections.
1. Place dialyzer in the holder with venous end up, and attach the venous bloodline to the
venous blood port.
2. Place the venous drip chamber in the level detector and line in the occlusion clamp and
the optical sensor with the white door closed.
3. Insert single needle bloodline into Blood Pump module, beginning with pump segment
closest to the arterial-fistula connector.
4. Press Start/Stop key to align rotor for line insertion.
5. Grasp the pump segment and, using thumb pressure, position it behind the left yoke by
pressing the tubing retainer inward. Be sure the end of the segment clears the bottom of
the yoke.
Warning! Make sure the collar of the pump segment is positioned below the bottom of the
yoke. This will minimize the possibility of the segment kinking during pump operation.
6. Relieve pressure on the retainer and release the segment. The beginning of the pump
segment should be secured between the left yoke and the tubing retainer.
7. Press and hold the Start/Stop key. The rotor will turn clockwise and automatically
position the remainder of the segment within the pump housing.
Warning! Keep fingers free of rotor while it is turning to avoid possible injury
8. Release the Start/Stop key when the pump segment has been inserted along the track
inside the pump housing all the way to the right yoke.
