9. Grasp the remaining portion of the segment and, using thumb pressure in a manner
similar to step 5, position it behind the right yoke.
10. Release the tubing retainer and close the pump door. Be sure the pump segment is free of
kinks and both ends of the segment extend below the yoke.
11. Attach compliance chamber to the single needle pump pressure monitor port tightly to
prevent air leaks.
12. Drape second pump segment over the single needle pump outside of the pump. Place the
arterial chamber in holder.
13. Attach sterile saline to saline line. Open and prime tubing to the arterial fistula connector
with gravity.
14. Clamp the arterial line close to the arterial fistula connector.
15. Press the Prime key. Turn arterial pump speed to 100-150 ml/min., and remove the air
remaining in the arterial line. Arterial chamber may be turned upside-down to purge air
and establish the proper level. The compliance chamber level is created automatically.
Note: It is important to purge all air from the arterial line. Alternating the blood pump
speed between 450 and 100 ml/min will assist you. If necessary, prime with gravity to
assure purging of air.
16. Once the line is primed, interrupt by pressing the Prime key. Attach the dialyzer end of
the arterial line to the arterial blood port of dialyzer.
17. Press Prime key. Turn arterial blood pump to 100 ml/min and prime venous bloodline.
18. The arterial pump will stop automatically when saline is sensed in the venous drip
chamber.
19. Press the RESET key and adjust venous chamber level. Continue saline prime of venous
line, 100-150 ml of saline until the air is removed.
20. Stop the arterial blood pump and place the second blood pump segment in the single
needle pump, beginning with the left side first (Repeat steps 4 through 10). In the Test &
Options screen, set the Single Needle option to Yes and verify the arterial and venous
alarm limits at 160 mmHg. Adjust the arterial blood pump to approximately 100 ml/min.
pump speed. The single needle pump rate is set to approx. 20% higher than the arterial
pump (approximately 120 cc/min.). If using a single knob, single needle, the volume
displayed on the arterial pump in the single needle mode equals the average blood flow
rate for both pumps. For double knob, single needle, see the average blood flow rate
given below.
Note: When compliance chamber fills to calibrated pressure, the arterial pump stops and
the single needle pump begins, and line clamp opens.
21. Allow system to cycle using approximately 100-150 ml of saline.
Note: Setup with pre-processed dialyzers may vary per unit's protocol.
22. Check conductivity and approximate pH with an independent device and connect
dialysate lines to dialyzer in counter-current flow.
