1. Orient the mast as in Figure 26.

2. Place the mast foot so that no anchor can be placed closer
than 12 inches from any discontinuous surface, such as a
window, door, or edge of a wall. If you are installing on a
cinder block surface, place it so the outside holes are
positioned over the block surfaces. Do not drill into the
mortar between the blocks or closer than 2 inches to any
mortar joints. Because these restrictions also apply to the
support struts, consider their placement now also.
3. Have a helper hold the mast and mast foot in place. Using a
carpenter's level, plumb the mast in at least two different
locations on the side of the mast (see Figure 27).
