This manual specifies how to install the antenna mount so that the
general public is protected from prolonged exposure to RF
radiation above MPE levels. All installations must be done in
such a manner that the general public cannot access either the
volume of space projecting outward in front of the reflector
towards the satellite, or the volume of space between the feed
horn and reflector.
Installation of DIRECWAY-SP earth stations must conform to all
the safety alerts below. Read them all and make sure you
understand them. Keep these safety alerts in a ready accessible
place for easy reference.
Note: A second layer of the safety process is the inclusion of a
safety mechanism in all DIRECWAY-SP stations that averages the
radiated power over time to ensure that the MPE levels are not
exceeded in the cylinder in front of the antenna towards the
satellite. The mechanism activates after the system is installed and
functioning. Because installers do not configure or operate the
mechanism, it is not described in this manual.
The antenna must be installed such that only in locations that are
not readily accessible to children and in a manner that prevents
specifications
human exposure to potentially harmful levels of radiation.
To accomplish this, there must be controlled access to the antenna
(i.e., the earth station). There are two ways to accomplish
controlled access, as described in the following safety alert. More
specific instructions regarding the size of fenced installations and
signage for fenced and roof installations are in the manual
sections describing those types of installations.
