What is a site survey?

Preparing for the site
survey
The site survey and
safety considerations
This chapter covers the following topics:
• What is a site survey? on page 15
• Preparing for the site survey on page 15
• Site survey on page 17
The site survey verifies the type of DIRECWAY equipment
required, its exact location, and the installation effort that will be
required. This information helps ensure the timely installation of
the DIRECWAY system.
The site survey and all site preparation activities must be
completed before any site work begins. The site survey verifies:
• Proper location of indoor and outdoor equipment
• Valid and appropriate installation method used
• No line-of-sight to the satellite problems
• No IFL cable run problems
The site survey must ensure that the site and method chosen for
installing the antenna mount conform to the safety specifications
discussed in Chapter 2 – General requirements, and to the policy
detailed in the HNS document Policy for the Installation and
Operation of DIRECWAY-SP Two-Way Ka-Band Satellite Earth
Stations (HNS-30794).
