You can install the satellite dish onto a wooden wall. The
minimum size for wood wall studs is 2 inches x 4 inches that are
either 16 or 24 inches on center.
All center hole lag screws must be centered in the stud to which
they are attached. For this reason, you must be able to locate studs
and the center of studs with a high degree of accuracy, which can
be difficult to do. Home construction varies a great deal.
Construction styles, materials, and dimensions can all vary
widely. In addition, stud finders can give false readings. Also, you
need experience in home construction to be able to determine the
exact location of studs. If possible, confirm the location of the
studs and their centers from both the outside and inside of the
building. Refer to Figure 21 for a sample illustration.
In wooden wall installations, the antenna mount must be installed
such that the bottom lip of the reflector is at least 5 feet (1 m)
above ground, and no less that 3 feet 3 inches (1 m) from any
window or door in a building or adjacent structure.
Any type of wooden wall installation that attempts to make use of
a fence on three sides is not acceptable. This is because the
minimum distance from the back of the reflector to the fence
must be at least one antenna diameter. If it is assumed that the
wall is the "back" of the fence, the minimum distance can never
be achieved.
