CAUTION:
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off
the electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord.
To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from
the power source.
Attention:
• Read the "Installation guidelines" on page 85 to ensure that you work safely.
• Use any documentation that comes with the PCIe adapter and follow those instructions in addition to the
instructions in this section.
• Touch the static-protective package that contains the component to any unpainted metal surface on the
server; then, remove it from the package and place it on a static-protective surface.
Notes:
• Depending on the specific type, your PCIe adapter might look different from the illustration in this section.

Procedure
Step 1.
Lay the server on its side for easier operation.
Step 2.
Locate the applicable PCIe slot (see "Specifications" on page 3 to identify the different types of
PCIe slots in your server).
Step 3.
If a bracket is installed in the PCIe slot, remove it. Save the bracket for future use.
Step 4.
Open the retaining clip, and position the PCIe adapter over the slot.
Step 5.
Install a PCIe adapter.

Carefully press the PCIe adapter straight down until it is seated in the slot.
b.
Close the retaining clip to secure the PCIe adapter in place.
