To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from
the power source.

CAUTION:
When replacing the lithium battery, use only Lenovo specified part number or an equivalent type
battery recommended by the manufacturer. If your system has a module containing a lithium
battery, replace it only with the same module type made by the same manufacturer. The battery
contains lithium and can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed of.
Do not:
– Throw or immerse into water
– Heat to more than 100°C (212°F)
– Repair or disassemble
Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.

CAUTION:
The battery is a lithium ion battery. To avoid possible explosion, do not burn the battery. Exchange
it only with the approved part. Recycle or discard the battery as instructed by local regulations.
Make sure to read the following notes carefully before replacing the CMOS battery in the server.
• Read the "Installation guidelines" on page 85 to ensure that you work safely.
• Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see
"Power off the server" on page 13).
• If the server is in a rack, remove it from the rack.
• Remove any locking device that secures the server cover, such as a Kensington lock or a pad lock.
• Do not make CMOS battery in contact with any metal surface during the replacement. Any contact with a
metal surface can cause damages to the battery.
• When replacing the battery, you must replace it with another CMOS battery of the exact same type
(CR2032) made by the same manufacturer.
• After you replace the battery, you must reconfigure the solution and reset the system date and time.
Procedure
Step 1.
Remove the server cover (see "Remove the server cover" on page 199).
Step 2.
Locate the CMOS battery on the system board (see "System-board components" on page 27).
Step 3.
Remove the CMOS battery.

Gently push on one side of the battery until it leaves the socket.
