To remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from
the power source.
Attention:
• Read the "Installation guidelines" on page 85 to ensure that you work safely.
• Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see
"Power off the server" on page 13).
• If the server is in a rack, remove it from the rack.
• Remove any locking device that secures the server cover, such as a Kensington lock or a pad lock.

Procedure
Step 1.
Make preparations for this task.
a.
Remove the server cover (see "Remove the server cover" on page 199).
b.
Remove the front door (see "Remove the front door" on page 124).
c.
Remove the front bezel (see "Remove the front bezel" on page 122).
d.
Remove all of the installed drives or drive bay fillers from the drive cage and set them aside on
a static-protective surface (see "Remove a hot-swap drive" on page 102 or "Remove a simple-
swap drive" on page 106).
e.
Remove the system fan (see "Remove the front system fan" on page 113).
Step 2.
Disconnect the cables from the backplane.
Attention: Follow the instructions below to disconnect the cable from the SATA hard disk drive
connector (especially SATA hard disk drive 4 and 5 connectors):
1.
Press on the sides of the connector on the cable with your thumb and middle finger.
2.
Release the latch with your index finger as illustrated.
3.
Carefully pull the cable out of the connector on the system board.
