• Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see
"Power off the server" on page 13).
• If the server is in a rack, remove it from the rack.
• Remove any locking device that secures the server cover, such as a Kensington lock or a pad lock.

Procedure
Step 1.
Make preparations for this task.
a.
Remove the server cover (see "Remove the server cover" on page 199).
b.
Remove all the M.2 drives from the M.2 boot adapter (see "Remove an M.2 drive" on page
142).
c.
Disconnect the M.2 boot adapter cables from the system board.
Step 2.
Remove the PCIe adapter that secures the M.2 boot adapter from the chassis.
a.
Open the retaining clip as shown in the illustration.
b.
Grasp the PCIe adapter by its edges, and carefully pull it out of the slot.

Step 3.
Disconnect the power and signal cables from the M.2 boot adapter.
a.
Loosen the screw that secures the power and signal cables to the M.2 boot adapter.
b.
Disconnect all the cables.
