Powering Off the PTX1000

NOTE:
When Telnet is enabled, you cannot log in to a PTX1000 through
Telnet by using root credentials. Root login is allowed only for SSH access.
Commit the configuration to activate it on the PTX1000.

Before you power off a PTX1000:
Ensure that you have taken the necessary precautions to prevent electrostatic discharge
(ESD) damage. See
"Prevention of Electrostatic Discharge Damage" on page
Ensure that you do not need to route traffic through the PTX1000.
Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available to power off the PTX1000:
An ESD grounding strap
An external management device such as a PC
An RJ-45 to DB-9 rollover cable to connect the external management device to the
console port
To power off a PTX1000:
Connect to the router by using one of the following methods:

Connect a management device to the console (
the instructions in
"Connecting the PTX1000 to a Management Console" on page
Connect a management device to one of the two management (
following the instructions in
Device" on page
80.
Shut down Junos OS from the external management device by issuing the

vmhost halt
operational mode CLI command. This command shuts down Junos OS
gracefully and preserves system state information. A message appears on the console,
confirming that the operating system has halted.
user@host> request vmhost halt
Halt the system ? [yes,no] (no) yes
