REPLACEMENT OR INSTALLATION OF ADDITIONAL NETWORK INTERFACES

The same method of installing or replacing a Network Interface (NIF) applies to all GS4000
models.
You can install or replace a NIF without powering off the device. When installing or replacing a
NIF into or from the device while powered on, you must input the required command from an
operation terminal. As for the command to be input, refer to the GS4000
Guide.
5.7.1

Replacement or Installation of an Additional Standard NIF

The schematic procedure for installing/removing a standard NIF is shown below. As shown in
the figure, a standard NIF is installed into the packet switching unit. Note that the guide rail
should be attached to the packet switching unit before installing a standard NIF into it.

Replacement or Installation of an Additional Standard NIF
TRAINED ENGINEER OR A QUALIFIED MAINTENANCE PERSON.
Caution: Do not touch the electronic components on the solder side of a NIF. To avoid
damage, always store these components in approved anti-static bags.
NOTE: When installing another NIF, remove the dummy blank panel. Store the removed
dummy panel safely, so that it doesn't get bent or lost.
