A.1 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
"
Why can't I communicate with the relay using LPSO-Link?

If you are unable to communicate with the LPS-O relay using LPSO-Link, perform the following
checks:
• Verify the LPSO-Link program is selected for the comm port you are using on your PC or laptop
• Verify the cable you are using is a null modem cable
• Verify the protocol of the relay comm port you are using is set for GE-Modem. Note: rear port PL2A
is factory set for ASCII.
• Verify the unit ID, baud rate, stop bits, and parity settings of the relay comm port you are using to
match with the settings in the device setup for the LPSO-Link session.
"
What would I do if the LPS-O gives a red LED status indication?
A

If the LPS-O relay displays a red LED status, prompt the relay for failure messages. Press the infor-
mation key [INF] and select Status. Scroll down the list and write the failure messages of the relay.
Protection is not active when the Status LED is red. This condition could indicate a critical failure:
contact GE.
"
In which format should I save Xpression Builder configurable logic?

When configurable logic is created with Xpression Builder, it must be saved with a .BIN extension.
The BIN file is a binary formatted file which is downloaded to the relay. The user should also save the
logic with an .EXP extension. The EXP file saves the graphical layout of the logic. When both formats
are saved, the logic uploaded from the relay can be matched to the graphical layout saved for the
configurable logic file. If an EXP file is not created, Xpression Builder will give the relay logic a graph-
ical layout which is logically correct, but may have a poor layout.
"
Which do I download first: Xpression Builder configurable logic or relay settings?

First, download protection and general settings using the LPSO-Link program. Secondly, download
the configurable logic into the relay. The order of these two steps is important because downloading
configurable logic or settings change the inputs and outputs of the relay. The last settings down-
loaded are saved in the relay.
"
Does LPSO-Link work with Windows NT?

Yes. LPSO-Link works on Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows NT platforms. The install pro-
gram will look to see what operating system the user is running and will install the correct executable.
