5 FUNCTIONAL TESTS (FACTORY SETTINGS)
a) ZONE1 TIMER
3. Connect the relay as shown in Figure 5–3: PHASE-REACH TIMER TEST CONNECTIONS on page 5–19
for an AB fault.
4. Set the voltage inputs to the following values:
VA: 62 volts rms ∠0°,
VB: 62 volts rms ∠–120°,
VC: 67 volts rms ∠+120°.
5. Set the phase angle of the fault current, ∠ I
6. Apply the fault current at 10.0 (2.0) Amps rms to the relay and start the Precision Timer (the fault current
should not be ramped but applied at this level).
7. Stop the timer when the A1 contact closes, and reduce the fault current to zero. Verify that the trip target
indication shows a ZONE1 trip, such as: TRIP AB Z1. This verifies that the first zone tripped. The time for
the trip should be in the range 0.9 to 1.1 seconds.
8. Change the voltages of phases A and B to a magnitude of 70 V rms.
b) ZONE2 TIMER
9. Protection Settings:
Z1DISTANCE
(101)
Z1PHASE = NO
OUTPUTS
(2007) A1 = Z2PTMR; Index 132
10. Apply the fault current at 6.7 (1.4) Amps rms to the relay and start the Precision Timer (the fault current
should not be ramped but applied at this level).
11. Stop the timer when the A1 contact closes, and reduce the fault current to zero. Verify that the trip target
indication shows a ZONE2 trip, such as: TRIP AB Z2. This verifies that the first zone tripped. The time for
the trip should be in the range 1.9 to 2.1 seconds.
12. Leave the voltages at the values indicated in Step 9.
c) ZONE3 TIMER
13. Protection Settings:
Z2DISTANCE
(201)
Z2PHASE = NO
OUTPUTS
(2007) A1 = Z3PTMR; Index 133
14. Apply the fault current at 5.0 (1.0) Amps rms to the relay and start the Precision Timer (the fault current
should not be ramped but applied at that level). This is an AB fault that is within pickup of all four zones.
15. Stop the timer when the A1 contact closes, and reduce the fault current to zero. Verify that the trip target
indication shows a ZONE3 trip, such as: TRP AB Z3. This verifies that the third zone tripped. The time for
the trip should be in the range 2.9 to 3.1 seconds.
16. Change the voltages of phases A and B to a magnitude of 62 V rms.
