How to Remove the Boom

Tip-over hazard. This procedure
requires the removal of the
turntable counterweight. Failure
to remove the counterweight
before removing the boom
assembly will result in the
machine tipping over. Do not
remove the boom without first
removing the counterweight.
Tip-over hazard. When installing
the boom onto the machine, the
boom assembly must be first
installed prior to the installation of
the counterweight. If the
counterweight is installed before
the boom assembly, the machine
will tip over resulting in death or
serious injury.
Tip-over hazard. The turntable
counterweight is essential for
machine stability. Failure to install
the counterweight after installing
the boom assembly will
compromise machine stability
resulting in the machine tipping
over. Death or serious injury will
result.
Bodily injury hazard. This
procedure requires specific repair
skills, lifting equipment and a
suitable workshop. Attempting
this procedure without these skills
and tools could result in death or
serious injury and significant
component damage. Dealer
service is strongly recommended.

Remove the jib boom. Refer to Repair
Procedure, How to Remove the Jib Boom.

Remove the cable track. Refer to Repair
Procedure, How to Remove the Cable Track.

Raise the boom until the short and long link
arm to boom pivot pins are above the turntable
covers.

Place a block of wood measuring 4 x 4 x
60 inches / 10 x 10 x 152 cm under the long
link arm, across the turntable covers.

Slowly lower the boom until the long link arm
contacts the wood block. Do not rest the entire
weight of the boom on the block. Turn the
machine off.

Place wood blocks between the short link arm
and the turntable weldment for support..

Securely attach shackles and lifting straps or
chains with a minimum rating of 7.5 tons /
7000 kg to the lifting points on the top of the
turntable counterweight. Attach the lifting
straps or chains to a 7.5 ton / 7000 kg
overhead crane.
Note: A spreader bar and other hardware may be
needed to safely remove the counterweight.
