Installing Windows NT 4.0 with Compaq 64-Bit
Dual Channel Wide Ultra2/Ultra3 SCSI Adapters
IMPORTANT: Use the following procedure when you power up the server from the
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 CD and install your operating system on the Compaq
ProLiant DL580 server with a 64-bit Dual Channel Wide-Ultra2/Ultra3 SCSI Adapter
The Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 CD does not contain the required drivers for proper
installation on a server using this controller.
The preferred method for installing Windows NT 4.0 on Compaq Servers is to
use the Assisted Install Path provided with the SmartStart CD, although you
may use the following method to manually install the operating system:
1. Create the Compaq Support Software for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:
a. Start the server from the SmartStart CD.
b. Select Create Support Software from the SmartStart main menu.
c. Follow the instructions on the screen to create the Microsoft
Windows NT SSD.
2. Create the Windows NT start diskettes.
a. Insert the Microsoft Windows NT CD into a system running DOS
system, Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98.
b. From the I386 directory on the CD, execute the following commands
as required:

Under DOS execute:
WINNT /OX
I
Under Windows 95/98 execute:
WINNT /OX
I
Under Windows NT execute:
WINNT32 /OX
NOTE: Create the Microsoft Windows NT SSDs in reverse order with disk 3 first and
disk 1 last.
3. Install the Windows NT Operating System.
a. Start the server from the Microsoft NT 4.0 Setup Start Diskette.
b. Press F5 at the first blue text screen. Windows NT setup is displayed
in the upper left corner, no other text is displayed.
c. The following message is displayed after approximately 30 seconds:
