You can merge pages from multiple documents into the Thumbnail A document by
opening documents one after another in the Thumbnail B window. Documents in the
Thumbnail B window are view-only, and while you can copy pages from Thumbnail B
to Thumbnail A, you cannot edit the Thumbnail B document. A merged document
that you create in Thumbnail A can be saved (with a different name) as a new
PostScript, PDF or raster data file.
Editing or merging files
Files in the thumbnail windows that are edited or merged retain live links to their
original source files. This means that when a change is made to the file in the
thumbnail window, it is also make to the source file. To avoid accidentally modifying
your source files when merging and editing files, create and use copies of the files to be
edited or merged.
Merging files
In general, the print option settings of the file in Thumbnail A override the print
option settings in Thumbnail B. However, the settings of files in Thumbnail B that
require re-RIPping are not overridden; they are unchanged, and remain with the pages
that have been merged in Thumbnail A.
Printing merged jobs with settings that require re-RIPping in order to be changed
results in unexpected behavior. If you want print option settings that require
reRIPping to be the same in the merged job, you must change those settings in the
source files and re-RIP them before the job is merged. Merged files edited in the
Thumbnail windows should not be re-RIPped; if a merged job is re-RIPed and printed
only the pages of the original job in Thumbnail A will be processed and printed.
Page editing in Thumbnail A
Page-level editing in the Thumbnail A window (adding pages, deleting pages or
reordering pages) modifies the temporary PostScript, raster, or PDF file. Before you
can print the edited job, you must save its temporary file.
The Thumbnail B window is read-only—you cannot make changes to the
