3-1 Job Management with DocBuilder

Chapter 3:
DocBuilder Pro
(option)
The Command WorkStation includes a powerful DocBuilder tool that allows you
to preview and edit PostScript and raster data. (For information on how to identify a
raster data job, see page 1-19.)
DocBuilder 's merge features eliminate the limitations of particular software
applications. You can merge PostScript or raster pages of documents of different types,
even different computer operating systems. You can merge pages from graphics
programs with text pages from a word processor. An outline of DocBuilder 's features
follows; for more information and applications, see "Editing or merging files" on
page 3-12.
With the DocBuilder Pro option installed, PDF files can also be edited,

previewed, and merged using the thumbnail windows. In the descriptions and
procedures that follow, it is assumed that DocBuilder Pro is installed. If DocBuilder
Pro is not installed, PDF files cannot be edited or merged using the thumbnail
windows.
Job Management with DocBuilder
The DocBuilder tool can be used in the following ways:
• In the Thumbnail A window, you can see thumbnails of the currently RIPping job,
as it is processed, or of any PostScript, PDF, or raster data job (see "Previewing jobs"
on page 3-6).
• From the Thumbnail A and Thumbnail B windows you can open a full-screen
preview of a PostScript, PDF, or raster file (see "Full-screen previews" on page 3-9).
• Using the Thumbnail A and Thumbnail B windows together, you can merge
PostScript, PDF, or raster data from more than one file, even if the files were printed
from different applications on different computer platforms (see the next section
and "Editing or merging files" on page 3-12).
The features of DocBuilder are not available for PCL files or any job sent with
