Releasing the Electric Parking
Brake
To release the electric parking
brake, do the following:
1. Turn the ignition switch to the
on position.
2. Hold the regular brake pedal
down.
3. Press the electric parking
brake switch briefly.
If you attempt to release the elec-
tric parking brake without the
brake pedal applied, a chime will
sound and the following message
will appear on the driver
information center display:
• STEP ON BRAKE TO RELEASE
PARK BRAKE (step on brake to
release park brake)
The electric parking brake is
released when the Brake System
Warning Light is off and the
following message appears on the
driver information center display:
• PARK BRAKE RELEASED (park-
ing brake released)
If the yellow Electric Parking Brake
Light is on, the electric parking
brake has detected an error in
another system and is operating
with reduced functionality.

To release the electric parking
brake when the Electric Parking
Brake Light is on, press down on
the electric parking brake switch
and hold it in the down position.
When the Electric Parking Brake
Light is on, it may take longer than
normal for the electric parking
brake to release.
Continue to hold the switch until
the Brake System Warning Light is
off.
If the yellow Electric Parking Brake
Light is on, see your dealer.
