When the vehicle is started with a
child restraint installed in the front
passenger seat, the "off" indicator
should appear in the passenger
sensing system status bar (located
on the instrument panel) after the
system has completed its self-
check.
If a child restraint has been
installed and the Passenger Sens-
ing System has not deactivated the
air bags, turn the vehicle off.
Remove and then reinstall the
child restraint.
A thick layer of material (such as a
blanket) or aftermarket equipment
(such as seat covers, heaters or
massagers) located between the
seat cushion and the child restraint
or small occupant can affect how
the passenger sensing system
operates. Remove any additional
material from the seat cushion
before reinstalling or securing the
child restraint or small occupant.
Section 2
If, after you restart the vehicle, the
"on" indicator still appears, check
that the vehicle's seatback is not
pressing the child restraint into the
seat cushion. If it is, slightly recline
the vehicle's seatback and adjust
the seat cushion if possible.
Also make sure that the child
restraint is not trapped under the
vehicle's head restraint. If this
happens, adjust the head restraint.
