Seats and Restraints
See the following, later in this
section, for more information:
• System Operation with a Child
Restraint
• System Operation with Adult
Passengers
A thick layer of material (such as a
blanket) or aftermarket equipment
(such as seat covers, heaters or
massagers) located between the
seat cushion and the child restraint
or small occupant can affect how
the passenger sensing system
operates. Remove any additional
material from the seat cushion.
. . . 226
CAUTION
Keep the area under the
passenger seat or between the
passenger seat cushion and
seatback clear of objects to
allow for the proper operation
of the passenger sensing
system.
CAUTION
If the air bag light stays on or
comes on while you are driving,
there may be a problem with
this system. To avoid injury to
yourself or others, have the
vehicle serviced right away.
See "Air Bag Light" in Section 1
for more information.
If the front passenger seat is wet,
the passenger sensing system may
not work properly.
If the front passenger's seat gets
wet, dry it immediately.
• If the seat material is soaked
with liquid, the passenger
sensing system may turn off
the front passenger's air bags.
If this happens, the "off"
indicator will appear on the
status bar and the air bag light
will turn on.
• If liquid pools on the seat but
does not saturate the seat
material, the passenger sensing
system may activate the front
passenger's air bags when a
child restraint is installed or a
child is sitting in the seat. The
"on" indicator in the status bar
will turn on.
