    Tape Some of the procedures in this guide involve removing tape that holds cables or components. Two types of tape are used in this Gateway convertible notebook: • Mylar, non-conductive tape is typically transparent, with a red or brown tint.

    Preparing the convertible notebook To prepare the convertible notebook for maintenance: Make sure that the disc drive is empty. Turn off the convertible notebook. Make sure the LCD panel is in notebook mode, then close the LCD panel. Disconnect your convertible notebook from the optional port replicator.

  • Page 11 If you are removing a module, gently press outward on the clip at each end of the memory module until the module tilts upward. Clip Clip Pull the memory module out of the slot. Hold the new or replacement module at a 30-degree angle and press it into the empty memory slot.

  • Page 13 Insert the small flat-blade screwdriver or non-marring tool under the old battery and gently pry it up until it pops out of the socket. Make sure the positive (+) side of the new battery is facing up, then press the battery into the socket until it snaps into place.

  • Page 15 Loosen the wireless bay cover screw (this screw cannot be removed), then remove the wireless bay cover. Screw Unplug the two antenna cables. Move the antenna cables out of the way.
  • Page 16 Replacing Convertible Notebook Components Remove the two screws holding the wireless module. Screw Screw Pull the module out of the slot. Insert the new module into the empty slot. This module is keyed so it can only be inserted in one direction. If the module does not fit, make sure that the notch in the module lines up with the tab in the module slot.
  • Page 17 Reattach the blue antenna cable to the connector labelled MAIN or M, then reattach the red antenna cable to the connector labelled AUX or A. Replace the wireless bay cover, then tighten the cover screw.

  • Page 19 Loosen the two memory bay cover screws that secure the memory cover. (These screws cannot be removed.) Screw Screw Remove the memory bay cover. Be careful not to break off the tabs located on the bottom of the cover. If the cover does not remove easily, wiggle the cover to loosen it.

Locate the three spring-clips securing the top of the keyboard.
