Replacing a Faulty Hard Drive

5.7.1

Hard Drive Maintenance Overview

Hot-swappable drive trays: The drive trays are all hot-
swappable. A disk drive failure can be corrected online.
Forearm Handles: If the failed hard drive is behind either the
left- or right-side forearm handle, unfold the handles to access
the drive trays.
Front flap: Once the front flap of the drive tray has been
opened, the drive tray must be removed from the subsystem.
Failure to remove the drive tray from the subsystem after the
front flap has been opened may cause data errors.
Slowly remove the drive: There are situations when healthy
drives have to be removed, such as "Copy & Replace" member
drives with drives of larger capacity. To avoid damaging the
drives, pull the drive tray out only about one inch and then wait

Secure the module by fastening the six (6) screws
previously removed from the top.
Reinstall the PSU module into chassis. Please refer to
Section 5.5, Step 5-10 for how to install a PSU.

Replacing a Cooling Module on S12F-G1433

Squeeze the retention latches towards the center.
(See the figure below)
Gently remove the cooling module by pulling the
handle at the bottom.
Install the replacement module by aligning it with the
module bay and gently pushing it in. Push the cooling
module until it reaches the end of the module bay. Use
slightly more force when feeling the contact resistance to
engage the back-end connectors. The retention latches
should then hold the module in place.
