Introduction

This chapter provides detailed instructions on how to install the
subsystem into the rack, and how to install hard drives, drive trays
and optional BBU into the subsystem. Installation into a rack or
cabinet should occur before the hard drives or drive trays can be
installed into the subsystem. Please confirm that you received all of
the components listed on a printed copy of Unpacking List that
came with the subsystem before proceeding with the installation
process.

Installation Prerequisites

1. Static-free installation environment: The S12F subsystems
must be installed in a static-free environment to minimize the
possibility of electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage. (See
Section 2.3.2)
2. Component check: Before installing the subsystem, check to
see that you have received all the required components. (See
Section 2.5) If any items appear damaged or are missing, please
contact your vendor.
3. Hard drives: Up to twelve (12) SAS or SATA-II hard drives
should be separately purchased and available prior to installing
the subsystem. (See Section 2.7)
4. Cabling: All the fibre optical cables that connect the subsystem
to the hosts should be purchased separately. It is recommended
that you use certified fibre optical cables from Infortrend to avoid
compatibility problems. You can find sample topologies and
configuration options in Section 3.2. Please contact your vendor
or Infortrend for the list of compatible cables.
5. SFP transceivers: SFP transceivers also have to be separately
purchased. (See Section 3.1.4)
6. Memory modules: If you wish to replace the pre-installed DDR
RAM DIMM module, please refer to the DIMM replacement
procedures in Section 5.3.
