Check the status of the belt tensioners every time you inspect the belts, they must
be well lubricated and free from any kind of oxidation. Lubricate if required.
Take care when operating on belts
The air filter integrity and cleaning is important for the engine life and performances. FNM® engine series
air filters are developed for marine applications The filter has only the function to prevent the entrance of
water in the suction ducts from above (and access hatches) The filter prevents the entry of coarse
substances
Always keep the engine compartment clean and dry to ensure a long engine life and prevent that
dust or contaminants can be sucked by the engine during operation
The sea water pump is located on the main pulley of the auxiliary services command. The pump shaft is
driven in rotation by the movement of the crankshaft. The function of the sea water pump is to draw water
from the sea intake and to put it into circulation in the cooling systems (heat exchangers, exhaust
manifold, etc..). Water circulation is ensured by the rotation of a rubber impeller (nitrile) into the center
housing of the pump. The indications on the suction side are shown on the cover of the pump.
The impeller never rotates without water for more than 1 minute, dry rotation increase the impeller
temperature and quickly wears the vanes.
Take care to sea water impeller ,it broken could provoke engine over heat.
Is necessary that you have a backup impeller on board to replace in case of damage during
navigation.
To dismount the impeller :
1. Stop the engine and close the sea water valve .
2. Remove the fastening screws from pump cap and remove the cap (take care to the gasket).
Remove the impeller with the appropriate puller Mark the impeller with a pen on the side at sight
3.
to reposition it (only if it isn't damaged) in the same way.
4. For new impellers lubricate them with silicon spray grease before mounting them.
5. Install the new impeller on the grooved shaft.
6. Close the pump cap and replace the seal gasket if possible.
