This chapter describes how to configure the PC and the Router to access the Internet immediately after it has been successfully configured (take Windows XP for example). 3.1 Configure PC Step 1: Click the Start menu on your desktop, right click My Network Places, and then select Properties (shown in Figure 3-1).

For some ISPs you need to reduce the MTU. But this is rarely required, and should not be done unless you are sure it is necessary for your ISP connection.

Connect on Demand - You can configure the router to disconnect your Internet connection after a specified period of inactivity (Max Idle Time). If your Internet connection has been terminated due to inactivity, Connect on Demand enables the router to automatically re-establish your connection as soon as you attempt to access the Internet again.

Connect Manually - You can configure the router to make it connect or disconnect manually. After a specified period of inactivity (Max Idle Time), the router will disconnect your Internet connection, and not be able to re-establish your connection automatically even though you attempt to access the Internet again.

This should not be done unless you are sure it is necessary for your ISP. Service Name/AC Name - The service name and AC (Access Concentrator) name should not be configured unless you are sure it is necessary for your ISP.

A virtual server is defined as a service port, and all requests from Internet to this service port will be redirected to the computer specified by the server IP. Any PC that was configured as a virtual server must have a static or a reserved IP address because its IP address may change when using the DHCP function.
