loads connected to the UPS as a consequence of a dis-
charged battery, the UPS has been equipped with a communi-
cation interface. The loads connected can be monitored and
controlled using this interface. The power backup time pro-
vided by the battery is essentially dependent on the loads
connected.
When the mains returns, the UPS automatically switches back
from battery mode to normal mode. The loads are then sup-
plied from the mains again. The rectifier charges the battery.
For safety reasons the input plug is disconnected on both
poles in case of a mains failure. There is then no voltage on
the mains plug's contacts.
The function of the individual modules is briefly explained in
the following:
• Mains input with input filter (EMI and Class D SPD):
filtering of the AC input voltage to protect the internal elec-
tronics against interference, e.g. overvoltage.
• Buck & Boost monitoring unit:
monitoring of the mains and control of the internal electron-
ics. In addition, electronic compensation of voltage fluctua-
tions without utilising the battery. This feature provides a
significant increase in the expected service life of the bat-
tery.
• Rectifier with PFC (Power Factor Correction):
transforms the AC input voltage to a DC voltage for charg-
ing the battery and supplying the inverter.
• Inverter:
in the battery mode the inverter is supplied from the battery
and generates an AC voltage of 230V, 50Hz from the 12V
DC.
• Battery / accumulator:
maintenance-free, sealed lead gel accumulator.
