newfs - construct a new file system

DESCRIPTION
New!8 is a "friendly" front-end to the mk!8(8) program. On the VAX, new!8 will look up the type
of disk a file system is being created on in the disk description file

disk type is
determin~d
by reading the disk label. New!8 then calculate the appropriate parame-
ters to use in calling mk!8, then build the file system by forking mk!8 and, if the file system is a
root partition, install the necessary bootstrap programs in the initial 16 sectors of the device.
OPTIONS
FILES
-n
Do not instal the bootstrap programs.
-v
new!, prints out its actions, including the parameters passed to mk!,.
Options which may be used to override default parameters passed to mk!s are:
-8
alze
The size of the file system in sectors.
-b bloek-alze
The block size of the file system in bytes.
-I Iral-alze
The fragment size of the file system in bytes.
-t #tl'aekl/eyllnder
-e #eyllndel'l/sroup
The number of cylinders per cylinder group in a file system. The default value used is
16.
-m free space %
The percentage of space reserved from normal users; the minimum free space thresh-
hold. The default value used is 10%.
-l'l'evolutlon./mlnute
The speed of the disk in revolutions per minute (normally 36(0).

for disk geometry and file partition information (VAX only)
/etc/mkfs
to actually build the file system
/usr/mdec
for boot strapping programs
