trailing
arm

puller.

Clean
the trailing arm
bearing
housin g thoroughly.
Make sure all
thread
bores.
bolts
.
nuts
and
mating sur-
laces are
clean.
14.
Install
the
new wheel
bearing
into
the trailing arm using
a
press (BMW spec
ial
tool nos
.
334030.

4036.
and
33 4
037
or the
equivalents).
Apply
lorce only to the
outer
race when press
ing
in the
bearing.
Install
a new
circlip.
CAUTION
-
Make
sure tns!

bearing is pressed
in

enough

the circlip is fully sealed in its
groove.

the stub
axle into the
bearing
using a puller

stub
axle.

collar nut back onto the
stub
axle until
it is flush
with
the
end

sott-laced
hammer.
tap the
stub axle
out

the bearing

native tools

install the
axle.
be sure to
support the
bearing
inner
race
when
pressing or pulling the
axle
into
place.
16.
Lightly oil the
bear
ing surface 01 the drive
flange collar
nut
and
install it to
the drive
flange.
Tighten the collar
nut
firmly.
but
do not
fully
tighten
it
at
this
time
.
WARNING-
For
safely
reasons.
the axle
collar
nut should
only
be
tightened
10
its
linal
torque with the wheel in-
stalled and the
car
towered
to the
ground.
However.
loading
the
bearing
without
Ihe
nut
tightened
suffi-
ciently
may damage Ihe
bearing.
17.
Install
the
brake
rotor and ca
liper
as
described
in
340
Brakes
.
Install the ABS
sensor.
Install
the
road wheel.
Ti

drive

Brake
caliper
to trailing arm
67 Nm

ft·lb)
18.
Lower the car 10 the
ground.
App
ly
the
parking
brake
to
prevent the
wheel lrom
turning.
Tighten the
drive
flange
collar nut to its
final
torque.
