7. Set engine to TOG by rotating engine in normal operat-
ing direction. See Fig. 33.
• arrows on intake camshaft sprockets point up.
• camshaft lobes at cylinder no. 1 face each other
• mark on vibration damper aligns with casl boss on
front liming chain cover.

8. Loosen Ihree access ible bolls on all camshaft sprock-
ets at left and righl cylinder heads.
NOTE -
Hold the camshaft stationary (at hex on camshaft)
when loosening
or
tightening the camshaft sprocket
mounting bolts.
9. Turn engine over one complete revolution. Loosen reo
maining bolls on camshaft sprockets .
10. Turn engine over to TOG again. Hold crankshaft and
camshafts at TOG position using BMW special tools,
See Fig. 34. Turn camshafts at hex slightly 10 ensure
prope r fil of camshaft locking tools.

5-8) and tools 11 2 445/441 ICyl. 1·.1). Install
camshaft tools with letter A on exhaust side and letter E on
intake side.
CAUTlON -
The camshafts must be locked in the TOC posi-
tion at the rear of the camshafts. The arrows on
the sprockets should not be used to set the engine
atTDC.
