Remove the

rail mounting

Pull
up on
the
fuel
rail and remove the
rail
with injec-
tors.
Remove
the
injector
retaining
clips and
then
pull
the injectors
from the
fuel
rail.
WARNING-
Fuel will be
discharged.
Do not
disconnect any
wires that could cause electrical
sparks.
Do
not
smoke or
work
near
heaters
or other fire
hazards.
Keep
an
approved fire extinguisher
handy.
Installation
is the reverse of
removal. Fit
new a
-rings when
installing the
injectors.
For
ease
of instaliation, lightly
lubricate
the a
-rings
with
SAE90
gear lube. Check
that
the
injector
electrical
connect
ions
are
correctly
fitted and
that
the injectors
are fully
seated
prior
to installing the
fuel rail mounting
bolts.
Replace
wire
ties.
Tighteni ng
Torque
• Fuel rail to cylinder head
10 Nm (89 in-Ib)
Fuel pressure
regulator, replacing
NOTE-
Be sure the code
number
on
otd
pressure
regulator
matches
that of the
new
regulator.
On M20 and M30
engines,
the fuel pressure
regulator at-
taches to the fuel rail with two
bolts. Disconnect
the vacuum
hose and fuel return hose as shown in
Fig.
24
.
Remove the
bolts and then
wrap
a
shop
rag around the regulator. Pull the
regulator from the fuel
rail.
Installation is the reverse of remov
-
al. Always
replace
a
-rings
.

engines,
it will be necessary to remove
the
top
engine
coverts}
to
access the fuel pressure regulator
.
The fuel pressure regulator is held to the
fuel
rail by
either
a
ring clamp (199 1-1993
models)
or a locking
ring
(1994-1995
models).
To remove the
regulator,
remove the
clamp or
the
locking
ring.
See
Fig.
25.
Wrap a shop rag
around the
regula
-
tor
and pull
the regulator from the
fuel
rail. On M50
engines,
discon
nect
the
vacuum
hose.
Installation is the reverse
of
re-
moval. Always
replace
a
-rings.
