FUEL INJECTION-DME
Idle speed control valve, replacing
(M20 and M30 engines)
1. With the ignition key off. disconnect the harness con-
nector from the idle speed control valve. See Fig. 26.

2. Detach the rubber retaining strap from the valve's sup-
port bracket.
NOTE -
II installed. loosen hose clamps belore removing the
valve Irom the hoses.
3. Pull the idle speed control valve from its hoses .
4. Installation is reverse of removal.
NOTE -
Poor driveability may be noticed immediately etter in-
stalling the replacement valve. Aller about 10 minutes
01driving. til e DME system will adap t the idle spee d.
Idle speed control valve, replacing
(M50 engines)
The idle speed control valve is mounted beneath the intake
manifold. Accessing the valve is best accomplished by first re-
moving the intake manifold.
NOTE -
11 is recommended that the intake manilold gaskets be
replaced whenever the intake manifold is removed.
1. Remove the top engine covers from the engine. See
Fig. 27.

2. Remove the two hold down nuts from the fuel injector
wiring duct. Pry back the injector connector retainers
and lill off the wiring duct.
3. Disconnect the intake air boot from the throttle housing.
Where applicable disconnect the accelerator cable and
cruise control cable from their brackets.
4. Unbolt the intake manifold and move it out of the way
enough to access the idle speed control valve.
NOTE -
The intake manilold is held in place with seven nuts Irom
above and two support bracket bolls from underneath.
Carelully disconnect the idle air hose Irom the mtake
manilold when lilting Ihe manifold off. For more inlorma-

113 Cylinder Head Removal and Installation.
5. Disconnect all necessary hoses and remove the idle
speed control valve.
6. Installation is reverse of removal. Use new gaskets
when installing the intake manifold.
NOTE -
Poor driveabilily may be noticed alter installmg
a
re-
placement idle speed control valve. Alter about 10 min-
utes of driving. the DME system will adapl the base
setting of the valve and ttie idle speed shou ld return 1 0
normal.
Tightening Torque
