OPTIONAL GAGES
Tachometer
The option al Tacho meter indica tes the speed of the engine in
revolu tions per minut e. The indica ted numb er, times 100, gives the
engine speed. Opera ting the engine with the tachom eter readin g in the
color-c oded high speed area could lead to serious engine damag e.
When the ignition switch key is turned to the OFF position, the pointer
may not necessarily return to the 0 RPM position. For the tachometer
to register 0 RPM the key must be in the ON position and engine not
running.
Engine Temperature Gage
This gage indicates coolant temperature which will vary with air
temperature and operating conditions. The ignition switch must be on
for accurate readings. Hard driving or prolonged idling in very hot
weather will cause the pointer to move beyond the center of the band.
Should pointer move to the line at the "H" end of the band, see "Engine
Coolant" on page 3-4.
Voltmeter
When the engine is operating, the voltmeter indicates the condition of
the charging system. During normal vehicle operation, the needle
should be in the center range of the dial. If the needle stays in either
the left side or right side of the dial, the cause should be determined
and corrected.
With the ignition in the ON position, but with the engine NOT
operating, the voltmeter will indicate the state of charge 'of your
battery.

Oil Pressure Gage

The oil pressure gage indicates the pressure at which oil is being
delivered to the various parts of the engine requiring lubrication.
Pressures registered by the gage may vary according to .outside air
temperatures or weight of oil being used. Oil pressure of a cold engine
being operated at a given speed will be somewhat higher than when
the engine is at normal operating tempera, ture at the same speed.
Prolonged high speed operation on a hot day at the given speed will
result in somewhat lower oil pressure readings. Readings of 30 to
psi (205 to 275 kPa) may be considered normal during moderate road
speeds of 35 to
temperature. Gage readings which are consistently high or low under
these conditions may indicate lubrication system and/or engine
malfunction.
Wi ndsh ield Wiper and Washer
The windshield wiping system operates at two speeds and is designed
to wipe clear specific areas of the windshield under most inclement
weather conditions. The windshield wipers work electrically and are
not affected by engine operation.
