DataSocket servers, Lookout or LabVIEW DSC module applications,
and data published by the Data Publishing VIs.
DataSocket uses uniform resource locators (URLs) to specify absolute
paths to data items. A URL consists of three separate components:
protocol, network address, and locator. You are probably most familiar with
URLs from using a Web browser. For example,
http://www.ni.com/
is a URL in which is the protocol,
support/fieldpoint http
is the network address, and is
www.ni.com support/fieldpoint
the locator.
The FieldPoint software package installs a DataSocket URL browser in
LabVIEW. To launch the browser, select Tools»Browse Network for
DataSocket URLs. Enter the IP address of the FieldPoint device or
computer you want to browse, and click Refresh. After a short pause,
the available DataSocket servers appear in the window. Open each server to
access an item on that server, as shown in the following figure. Once an
item has been highlighted, its URL is displayed in the URL field. You can
use copy <Ctrl-C> and paste <Ctrl-V> to insert the URLs into the
DataSocket read and write VIs.
