The zoom ratio changes when the resolution is changed.

Optical zooming

Zooming up to a ratio of 20x is possible if recording without

Size] in the [Rec] menu. (→95)

Optical zooming is not available in the following cases:

• Scene Mode ([Panorama Shot])

• [Macro Zoom]

Extra optical zoom

Zooming up to a ratio of 42.2x is possible when recording with

[Picture Size] in the [Rec] menu (→95). EZ is short for "Extra optical zoom".

●

Extra optical zoom cannot be used in the following cases:

• [Snapshot Mode] (when [Motion Deblur] is [ON])

• [Macro Zoom]

• Scene Modes ([Panorama Shot] [HDR] [High Sens.] [High Speed Video])

• [Creative Control] Mode ([Toy Effect])

To increase the zoom ratio further, the following zoom modes can be used in combination.

[i.ZOOM]

You can use the camera's Intelligent Resolution technology to increase the zoom ratio

up to 2x higher than the original zoom ratio with limited deterioration of picture quality.

Set [i.Resolution] to [i.ZOOM] in the [Rec] menu. (→102)

When [i.Resolution] is set to [i.ZOOM], Intelligent Resolution technology is applied to

the picture.

●

[i.ZOOM] does not function in the following cases.

• [Snapshot Mode] (when [Motion Deblur] is [ON])

• Scene Modes ([Panorama Shot] [Handheld Night Shot] [HDR] [High Sens.])

• When [Burst] is set to

• [Creative Control] mode ([Toy Effect])

• [Macro Zoom]

[Digital Zoom]

This mode allows zooming ratios 4x higher than Optical/Extra optical zoom. Note that,

with Digital Zoom, enlarging will decrease picture quality. Set the [Digital Zoom] in the

[Rec] menu to [ON]. (→102)

Digital Zoom cannot be used in the following modes:

• [Snapshot Mode]

• Scene Modes ([Panorama Shot] [Handheld Night Shot] [HDR] [High Sens.]

[High Speed Video])

• [Creative Control] mode ([Toy Effect] [Miniature Effect])

When Digital Zoom is used simultaneously with i.Zoom, you can only increase the

zoom ratio up to 2x.
