Test Macintosh Ethernet Port

To test the printer's Ethernet port from a Macintosh computer without connecting to the customer's network,
use a crossover cable and the Macintosh Network Utility. The printer and computer must be set to the same
range of IP addresses.
The following example demonstrates how to test the Ethernet connection to a
Mac OS 10.1 computer.
1. Verify the printer is "Ready To Print".
2. To check the computer's TCP/IP settings, use the Apple menu to select System Preferences:
Select "Network".
Select "Show Built-in Ethernet".
Click the TCP/IP tab and record the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.
3. Use the Control Panel to set the printer's TCP/IP address:
Print the Startup page using the printer's Information...Information Pages menu path.
Use the Startup page to verify TCP/IP is enabled and to check the IP address and Ethernet type. If
the Ethernet type is "not connected," either the cable or port is broken.
Use the printer's Control Panel to change its IP address to a static IP address that matches the
Macintosh computer except for last field. (For example, if the computer's IP address is
177.206.21.222, you may use 177.206.21.223).
Edit the printer's gateway and subnet mask to match the computer.
See "Test Windows Ethernet Port (Alternate Procedure)" on page 34 to set the
printer's IP address if the computer's IP address is 169.254.xxx.xxx.
4. To test the connection using the Network Utility:
Connect a crossover cable between the Ethernet ports on the printer and the computer.
Double-click the hard drive icon.
Select Applications...Utilities...Network Utility.
Click the PING tab.
Enter the printer's IP address.
Configure the utility to send four pings. The test will end after four tries.
Click the "Ping" button to complete the test.
