Chapter 2
Check the light pipe on the module as follows:
a. Remove the disk drive module, as described in the HP NetServer
Ultra2 SCSI Hot-swap Hard Disk Drive and Tray User Guide.
b. Inspect the light pipes, shown in Figure 2-34, for damage. If a light pipe
is damaged, contact your reseller.
CAUTION
The light pipes are fragile. Be careful not to damage them
when you inspect them or when you reinsert the module.
c. Reinstall the disk drive module, as described in the HP NetServer
Ultra2 SCSI Hot-swap Hard Disk Drive and Tray User Guide.
d. Restart the NetServer to determine whether the LEDs become
illuminated during the POST now. If not, contact your reseller.

About Hard Disk Drive LEDs

Each Ultra2 disk drive module has two LED apertures, one for power status and
one for activity status, as shown in Figure 2-33. Light pipes on the module transmit
light to these apertures from LEDs on the inside rear of the hot-swap mass storage
cage.
Power Status LED
The colors displayed in the power status aperture have the following meanings:
Off: Disk not present, or not connected to the cage
Green (solid): Disk present
Activity Status LED
The colors displayed in the activity status aperture have the following meanings:
Off: No disk activity
Green (flashing): Disk accessing
Green (solid for more than 1 minute): Disk spinning up or "hung"
Amber (flashing): Disk failure predicted
Red (solid): Disk failed
