Printer Messages

Printer messages provide useful information for
progress checks and troubleshooting. These messages
are displayed in the following locations
On the printer operator panel
In the Silentwriter Print Monitor display on your
computer—whether you are running Windows or
DOS.

Status Messages

Status messages appear on the printer operator panel
and report normal operating conditions. No action is
necessary. Table 8-1 on page 8-10 lists status messages.

Alert Messages

Table 8-2 on page 8-11 lists alert messages. Alert
messages appear on the printer operator panel or on the
Silentwriter Print Monitor when a condition occurs that
causes normal printing to be suspended. Often,
operations can be recovered without losing data by
removing the source of the problem. Other conditions
require the printer to be turned off and then on again to
reset it, in which case, any data is lost.
The following printer settings affect how the printer
behaves when certain alert messages occur
This setting determines how the
Auto Continue:

When Auto Continue is set to On, no message

printer continues printing on the paper of the
selected cassette. When it is set to Off, a printer alert
appears on the operator panel display and printing
stops until you correct the problem.
If this is set to On, the printer will
Jam Recovery:
automatically reprint lost pages of a PostScript print
job after a jam is cleared, as long as you do not turn
off the printer. Jam Recovery can only be set in the
operator panel menu tree.
